The article focuses on the opposition to the U.S. Patriot Act. The Patriot Act and Patriot Act II have been met with opposition by Alaska House of Representative majority leader John Coghill, Idaho Representative C. L. Otter, Wisconsin Senator F. James Sensenbrenner, Ron Wyden of Oregon and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska among others. Concerns about the act include the broad definition of terrorism and the provision which would enable the government to demand library records. The opponents claim that the latter would hamper the freedom of speech and privacy rights of individuals. Anti-Patriot Act resolutions have been proposed and passed to cut the legislation sharply.
