The article reports on the social problems facing Cancún, Mexico due to globalization. Behind its glitz due to foreign investment in the tourism sector and development, the city is facing social crisis. The gap between the rich and poor continues to widen. It is the entrepreneurs and the rich who profit from rich natural resources and cheap and abundant labor while the impoverished workers live on meager income and still face layoffs in the slow season. There is no housing and road developments. Political corruption is still rampant. Recent developments and globalization has degraded the city instead of helping the people improve their lives.
