Fidel Will Be Around Awhile

This article presents the author's brief account of the regime of Cuban ruler, Fidel Castro. Cuban exiles residing in Miami are hoping to reclaim their expropriated property, while Florida Governor Bob Martinez, combining machismo with chutzpah, has set up a commission to study the impact of Cuba's collapse on Florida. Some of the paunchy veterans of the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion have picked up theft rusty rifles to "train" for another assault; as in the past, U.S. police agencies are turning a blind eye to their activities. Cuba is in crisis because of the dramatic changes in the world and the paucity of them on the island, but to count Fidel out and the revolution dead is premature. Castro has survived seven U.S. Presidents, each of whom was trying to get rid of him.
