This article presents information related to political developments in the world. A confidential business plan calls for collecting as many as 100 million waste tires in the United States and Canada and shipping them to the Marshall Islands in the Pacific, where they would be used primarily to build artificial reefs to increase the "aquaculture and agriculture potential" of the impoverished atolls. Corporate greed is not the only cause of ecological damage. The state controllers of Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union have long put production ahead of the environment. Acid rain is destroying Eastern European forests. In Krakow, Poland, lead contamination in apples and lettuce is ten times higher than the limit set by the World Health Organization.
