In this article, the author focuses on the Serbo-Croatian socio-political movements in order to overcome difficulties resulting from the Persian Gulf crisis. It is the current international aim to ensure that no civil war can occur in the Southeastern part of Europe. That is why the extreme nationalist tension between Serbs and Croats should not be neglected. Such a conflict would not be "only" a civil war between Croatia and Serbia, which might be considered a minor problem on a world, or even a European, scale but a war engulfing the entire Balkan Peninsula. The problem is that the war has already started, and the world will have to deal with it sooner or later. The problem of 500,000 ethnic Serbs living among 4.6 million Croats in Croatia has been simmering for the past few months, especially since the Croatian Democratic Union took office following free elections in the republic in April 1990.
