The commercial, sponsored by "all the people who put food on your table," as represented by the Agriculture Council of America, is part of a new multimillion-dollar public relations campaign, dubbed "Food Watch," to convince the American people that the food they eat is safe. A.C.A.'s Food Watch campaign is the offspring of a recent worryfest among industry groups and government agencies that criticize public interest groups' efforts to publicize the dangers of pesticides, food additives and other threats to public health. Industry groups fear they'll lose business, while government bureaucrats lament the ignorance of the unwashed mob, so easily misled by "zealots."
