The article looks at the influence of journalist Robert Kaplan on the U.S. politics. As a journalist, Kaplan would combine firsthand reporting from badly governed countries with wide reading on the political, economic and ecological problems faced by the same country. Policy-makers take his recommendations seriously. Kaplan said it is a cliché to say that the U.S. possesses a global empire. He added that the U.S. should focus more on how to manage an unruly world. In short, Kaplan bluntly advocates a policy of U.S. world domination. But since domination contradicts the democratic principle of the U.S., Kaplan suggests to solve it by using deception.
